1. What is generally expected of those who work and volunteer for Samaritan Residential Schools?

A teacher/volunteer at Samaritans is expected to put himself/herself in the role of a parent in the lives of the children and students he/she teaches. A teacher's job is not a 9-5 job but a vocation that calls for dedication 24/7. A typical working day for a teacher begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 8:00p.m. While this is not the work schedule for every teacher everyday, all teachers will have to work in shifts over the entire week. Saturdays and Sundays are more relaxed with extra-curricular and co-curricular activities for the students. Some teachers will be engaged in these activities with the students.

Samaritan students come from all over India and Nepal. We also have students of South Asian origin from the Middle East and the Far East. This offers these children the opportunity to be educated at an institution normally reserved for the the social and economically elite.

Most of the teachers and support staff are provided on campus housing which embodies a homely atmosphere for the students in residence as the teachers play a parental role in their lives. Some teachers are provided housing off-campus which is very close and a walkable distance to the main campus. Our school is based on Christian values and we encourage our teachers to be role models and to take an active interest in mentoring the children in their care. The school is co-educational and we have a responsibility to parents to teach and educate their children with the highest morals and values.
